Barbara Rizzi

An entrepreneur, a designer, and founder of the eponymous luxury brand, 100% Made in Italy.

My brand BR is rooted in a fascinating history of Italian entrepreneurship, where work and family play a fundamental role.

My passion for fashion was born with me, on May 10, 1975. From my grandmother Pina, I learned the art of sewing and crocheting; from my grandmother Adele, the art of knitting and embroidery. I designed the dress for my first day of school, the dress to wear on Christmas Day, to the Carnival party… I remember falling madly in love with a pair of Uniform jeans I saw in a shop window. I waited eight months, until Christmas Day, to get them, and then I didn’t take them off for days. While working at the airport as a station manager for the AirOne airline at Linate, I studied at the Istituto Carlo Secoli in Milan, earning diplomas in Fashion Design and Pattern Making.

Due to the premature passing of my father in 2006, I took the reins of the family business, RIVAIR, driven by a strong sense of responsibility and redemption. I was catapulted into a world I didn’t know—mechanics—a predominantly male world, I, who was not the much-desired son. The passion for fashion, the clothes, the satisfaction of seeing the happy and satisfied faces of the women who would wear my creations, were locked in a drawer and stifled every single day for 17 years until Rivair achieved a well-deserved success, earned and conquered with sweat and tears. Now at its peak, with several branches abroad, Rivair can help me found BR. The brand bears my first and last name because while a son might carry on the family name for a few generations, I will write it into history. RIVAIR is everything to me; it is family, it is success, it is the father who allowed me to realize my dream. That is why the BR logo is the impeller—the beating heart of the centrifugal compressor—because BR and RIVAIR merge into a single soul: mine.

My creations are for strong, independent, bold, and sophisticated women who fight every day with grit and determination; women who dare and have the courage to wear colors, embroidery, and non-standardized perfections. My jackets, strictly featuring shoulder pads, recall a militaristic style, the same one I was raised with. It is no coincidence that my father called me Genghis Khan: “where she passes, grass will no longer grow.”

There are two symbols tied to the brand. The peacock, a symbol of royalty, beauty, and rebirth—it is the link between this world and the next. The tiger, a symbol of strength, courage, and steadfastness.

My brand, BR, dedicates its collections to all those women who have conquered their self-esteem and self-confidence on the battlefield, and for this reason, no longer want to go unnoticed.

The brand’s message is: “True strength comes from within, but clothing is our faithful companion, our armor for every daily battle.”
